good/bad/up+coming

TGN: I've got a lot of Wii in my system lately. Sunday I got so good at balancing that my Wii-age went from 39 to 22! I'm still bad at baseball, and tightrope walking, and very very bad at golf, but balancing! Posture! When I work on it, it's good.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
TBN: My Wii arm is a little sore, and (even worse!) Otolaryngologist confirmed tinnitus. Now I have more new pills to take, a hundred more appointments, and a brain MRI* coming up! Even with insurance, I'm getting really poor over medicine lately.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Up & Coming: January. Quitting processed foods. You know, like cheese. I just want to be okay.

*they ask a lot of questions when scheduling your MRI. Any metal in your face? How much do you weigh? I guess that means it's one of those tube situations, like a CT scan? What do they do if you're too big?

aid

Today I go for a hearing test. Then to a Otolaryngologist, who's name is Artz, to find out whether I have Tinnitus.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'm so nervous, but I'm also proud of myself a little for finally taking care of All These Things.

After today, I'll have gained five doctors this year!

Also, ears are so gross.

yikes, Dave

I just read that Making Time is FORTY DOLLARS?
They must bus people in from the suburbs or something.

survey says?

First, I'm not even really sure where a girl can get a roll of double sided tape these days. Ideas?

Anyway, I'm on Myspace today, and reading one of these surveys that people do that I think are kind of dumb but I always read them anyway, especially when the poster tricks me into it with a misleading title. It's all about 2k8 vs 2k9, things you did, firsts, resolutions, places you went, things you want, etc.

I considered filling it out and posting it, kind of as a joke and kind of for real, but hating filling it out too much. Besides, all the things I want are real obvious like long hair and fixed teeth and people who bring puppies over and a Wii, and all the things I regret I'd rather forget than type a list of, and you already know all the other things I did.

So, no survey.

Instead, an invitation. You already know about it.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Ice sculpture, champagne fountain, confetti cannons, tiny buttons, tiaras, a soundtrack featuring "The Final Countdown", people with digital cameras, girls in nice outfits and fancy shoes, drinks, party favors, a giant box of fireworks (thanks Moty), etc.
Come?

right next door

On Christmas day, while we were seeing The Spirit shoot some bad guys up, actual people were getting actually shot at the same theatre.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This guy first throws popcorn at the son, then shoots the father of a family that just wouldn't stop talking during Benjamin Button*, and I think we all know that that's just how things go down on Colombus Blvd. Yikes.
Melissa sent me a link, and thought I probably already knew about it. The best part is that he had the gun clipped inside of his sweatpants. Oh, South Philly.

*I'm planning on seeing this movie tomorrow night, despite obvious risks involved. Life on the edge and all.

iso financiers

Last night before going to see this
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I got to meet Nikki's most recent Match.com at Pope. By the time I got there, they had already figured out a plan for me to blog my way to new teeth. Nikki knows her blogs, and this boy knows the nets, and here's the plan, as presented to me:
Get lots of traffic to your blog.
(No one reads my blog except my friends, who are poor).
Get a wider, more diverse audience.
(I can't, I only write boring movie reviews and post pictures of cats and things).
Write more interesting things than you write.
(Like...?)
Post paypal link.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
He guarantees me that (worst) at least ten people will donate one dollar or (best) I'm going to get my teeth paid for like that boy who's car got flipped over at the World Series celebration who posted a blog about it and everyone chipped in and got him a new car.

Oh yeah, and he said I'll have to join Twitter for this to work I think.

J's bday

Today is Christmas. Santa-Andy woke me up with his laryngitissy "Merry Christmas!". We all had breakfast and quizzo, and I forgot to make fried dough (sorry, maybe tomorrow am?), and we went to the movies!
First we went to see that one with Clint Eastwood as an old man that threatens to take on the local Latino gang. Good news? Maurice (the doorman at the Five) let us all in for free, for Christmas (cookies). The bad news is that every single seat was filled. Yikes.
So we went to see The Spirit at the Riverview instead, where we could NOT get free tickets, because it's a holiday, and things aren't free on holidays.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I secretly kind of liked it (well, maybe not liked it, but it surpassed my expectations). Everyone else hated it, a lot. It was one of those movies where people in the audience were laughing as the villian gets punched in the face 17 times, and one of those movies where it's supposed to look all timelessy or forties or something but then every once in a while people have videophones or something, and the bad guys are (kind of) Nazis, and comic-y like where everyone has gimmick names like "Silken Floss" and "Sand Serif".
Before the movie (during the previews) Holly pointed out several movies that would be good date movies for me and Nick Filardi, who recently called me and left a drunk voicemail that if I ever wanted to go on a date, I should let him know. Like the remake of My Bloody Valentine, in 3D (!).

meming

I do not know what a meme is or means, or how to say it, or if it's even a thing people say, but Kelly is trying really hard to turn me into one, which is a weird thing.

field guide

Today when I got home, Marilyn told me that Matt lB lost two nails. Into her leg. During a bath.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
He's still pretty standoffish.

Also, while on an early morning visit to Marshall's on Sunday AM, I got this awesome Deer Head for Keys for free, without stealing!
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
No price tag, and company makes that comment about "Oh, must be free!" and then...it pretty much was. The girl on a quest to figure out the price got tired of it, wrapped it up, and handed it to me. Happy Christmas!

Also, I'm taking great* pictures lately, huh?

*terrible

3

things about my blog
1. Conrad told me he doesn't read it cause it's too wordy/too often*.
2. Chris D told me he doesn't read it because he's mad (mad jealous) that more people read my blog than his, which is weird/funny.
3. Sometimes I wonder if Andy feels sad or dissed that I branched off, and in a way, quit on Ten Funny Things. The point is, I kind of quit going out, and Funny Things quit happening to me, so I quit trying to manufacture them. Maybe come summer. Also Andy, good luck with resolutions - in general, count me in, or at least send an invite.

*and there's too many pictures of me drinking out of straws, I guess, and that's "cheating".

I don't have parasites (thanks Kelly)
sometimes when Josh wants more, he doesn't
Kelly does NOT want you to touch her tree
girls (Rachel, Lulu, Amber) look so good with fresh cut bangs
Rander and I are good at naming drinks
Tim does notice if everyone is wearing his shirts when he gets there
if I tell you to wake me up when you wake up so we can hang out early morning, it's probably too early, two days in a row.

57

Last night I went to Making Time. At Transit.
It was pretty two thousand four, but with no Sarah or Melissa, and no Dane or Dan Platt, and no dancing, and no kissing. Back then I also had heard of the bands that played, and I think Making Time cost $8 or something -- last night, only $2*!
The best parts were that I came away with lots of money because of a mistake on the bartenders part, I didn't fall asleep in the basement, and we have a nearby HQ (thanks Chris). Oh, and that AMANDA went! We did a little MT-nostalgia tour. (I also got danced with by Olga, and I saw CVA separately in the same day - I'm used to seeing them together. Did they break up? Did I make that up? Invent it? Or did someone really tell me that?) Oh, and the bouncers, who always seem a little amused/confused by us.
The worst parts were that I didn't go home all day so was wearing rainboots and so much clothes, that they bolted shut secret bathroom, and the other people who weren't us who were there.

*probably it was only $2 to pre-compensate for the upcoing $25 New Year's Making Time. Come to our house instead.

right/wrong

Tonight was Work Dinner II.
The good news was the food, which was really good. I also learned a trick from mummer fiance, that goes like this:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
make circle fingers, and the side that makes a "b" is your bread side, and the "d" is the drink side. I suppose this is only useful in situations like tonight where you have a million people in a tiny space and need to remember where your drink is, but I still like it a lot.
The bad news is that a most of you (especially you, Sarah) were right.

2(k9) late

If you're still thinking about submitting 2k9 button ideas: YOU'RE TOO LATE.
Buttons are made, and they're awesome (thanks Ry!). Want one? Come to the party. Want an awesome one? Come to the party and BYO.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Notice the very most visible button is misspelled - special collector's item, like a misprint in a first edition.

Also you've been clamoring for a picture of my haircut (Beta), here it is.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Just kidding. But maybe I'll send you a real one, special delivery...

Also, my work computer broke broke (cause I downloaded a virus - who knew?!), so less blogging for a minute/I'll hit it all at once.
I spent a lot of time today with doctors because my face (where it's been all broken out? on my chin?) swelled up like I had just broken my my jaw or something. Everyone's all - did you fall? Are you sure? Did someone hit you? Have you seen a doctor about that? So, super swollen and I got talked into seeing my doctor.
The bad news? folliculitis - basically bacteria blowing up my face. They were surprised at how bad it is.
The good news? not that flesh eating virus from ANTM cycle 9, not oral herpes (one of the doctors sure thought so, for a minute), can be treated with pills, and explains that fever-y/shakes/chills night.
I'd post a picture of this*, but it's gross, and hopefully will be a little better by the time you see me.

Because I didn't have a computer at work today, I spent the time that I wasn't at Urban Outfitters, the doctor's, or getting scripts drawing pictures of us. As skeletons.

*I do have a picture, I took one of myself to make sure I wasn't making up swollen face. I wasn't.

who's got

NYE is just around the corner. You're invited to the second annual Beulah New Year's Eve Party with Confetti, and this time also with CHAMPAGNE FOUNTAIN*.

I started working on favor ideas (here's a hint: it's buttons again), and I need some slogans. Any ideas?
Some good ones I have so far:
"Auld Lang NINE!"
"Later, Eighter!" (or, "L8R, 8R!")
"Do a Line in 2k9" (this is kind of a joke)
"Amanda, Again?"
"Rob's Birthday, Again?"
"Still Who are Amanda and Rob?"
"Learn to Rhyme in 2k9!"

Send me some ideas, k?

As a side note, Jonathan Winters is ENGAGED (congrats!) and he just told me that his button from last year said, "I realized my fate in 2k8" which ended up to be TRUE. Maybe yours will be too.

*repurposed whiskey sour fountain.

p+n

You're probably all on pins and needles just wondering what could've been happening this weekend that was so exciting that I wasn't sitting at my computer blogging and trying to sink your (online) battleships.

You might have thought I was at the movies or something, but you were wrong.

WELL. There was the Chelsea/Blayer birthday party, which was all about super punk kids playing Wii, and cupcakes, and Crowleys
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
and a nice dog, and a girl asleep on the floor, and a bonfire out back
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
and leaving just in time to miss all the parts of parties that I should miss (really).

Sunday was "The Day We Took Our Handicapped Friend to the Mall"*,
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
where we hated other drivers, came up with new myspace handles, got pushed around in wheelchairs, bought clothes designed for teenagers, and got asked out in the parking lot.

Later we took Marilyn to get a Christmas** tree - it's real and alive.

We managed to watch more Keiffer than you can imagine, and then today I learned all about "spywear", which I never really believed in but is real.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

*or, "The Gang takes Marickity Crickety Out in Public!", which does in fact elicit a number of sympathy-type moves from strangers, unless you're all laughing just tons, and then you get meaner "faker!" type looks...

**Speaking of JC's bday, we're hosting a brunch that morning, and you're invited!

I was going to be in Vail

but instead I'm in Philadelphia, hanging out with these jokers.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I was reminded that Marilyn is probably the only girl that falls as often (or more?) than I do.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Even with her broken cocyx(?), and a probably broken foot from gingerbread night, she still walks in girl-boots to parties. Then she tries to kick Gallman, and falls. It's almost like that "cute or sad" section of cuteoverload.com
Then it's sleep for a minute and straight to the DMV for a new license! With new picture! With boy haircut! Awesome.

Dear Leslie,
Thanks for hosting. I had so much fun. I like your cat, and all his paws.

p.s. My gingerbread house seems to have absorbed the smells of your house and is making my house, in turn, smell like mulled cider and spiced rum and candy.

Nikki,
I hope we didn't blow up your Match.com chances - I don't remember exactly what we wrote to that boy, but I hope it works out.

no, not now

Andy sent a text message yesterday asking us all to get on twitter, cause he's so stoked on it.
I didn't know what Twitter was.
So today I did a little research, and it's all just updates on everything your Twitter friends are doing. I'm not on it, but I imagine it to be like this:
Andy is going to work(/school).
Marilyn is re-watching Arrested Development cause she's too broken to go anyplace.
Dan K is getting stoked for his show tonight.
Ben is sending text messages that just say DDDIIIICCCKKKKKSSSSS.
Nikki is working on her kitten farm.
Josh is trying to decide something.
Marilyn is saying something in Charlie-voice.
Charlie is saying something in Charlie-voice.
Andy got to work(/school).
Ryan just got injured :(
Fran is making a movie!
Sarah is playing D&D in Korea.
Melissa is shopping at Anthropologie.
Andy is checking his Twitter!
Conrad is sleeping forever.
Kelly is over temping.
People from high school are doing things I prob don't care about.
Chris D is teaching some people some things.
Marilyn is decorating for Christmas and playing with her kitten and watching tv!

I already know more than I need to from Facebook.
So, in the grand tradition of Things I've Turned Down But Later Joined*, Twitter - I turn you down.

*Friendster, Myspace, Myspace again, Facebook.

getting back in the game

of bikes and summer clothes and endless nights.
Last night was a lot of things. (Now my blog is just a mundane journal of Things I Did?)
First, a documentary called Goth Cruise. It's what you imagine - a documentary about goth kids ("kids" = they were kids in the 80's and are now much older than I am) who go on this annual goth cruise to Bermuda. Pretty good. It made me think a lot about Magic Cruise (which I don't think anyone is actually going on, and I'm not sure I'd be invited to anymore anyway) but Rob insisted they'd be nothing alike.
On the bike ride up to Fishtown I found out it was the wrong day to try out Winter Shorts. Brrr.
Anyway, went to a little party at Lauren's and got to see Jack.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
(It's really dumb that I can't turn that picture.)
People always talk about how big Matt leBlanc is, and I always tell them they don't know about Jack - he's a Big Guy. Anyway, I tried to hang out with him, but my arms got tired.
We went to Silk and Dave P tried to get us to dance to Arcade Fire or something. No dice. Went to Ruba for a while. Andy fell asleep. Ben put him in his car so we wouldn't get asked to leave. Andy came back later in the night. He fell asleep again.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I think Kimmy fell asleep too, but that's kind of her thing.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
We all headed South and went to the Republican - you know, just me, Marilyn and the boys. The Republican had more girls with less clothes on, but was completely absent of the chips and salsa that the Russians and Ukrainians offered us.

One hundred things tonight too, so I'm planning on resting up all day (movies).
Also, today is that "art shop" thing that happens every year, but I think I'm not going. I'm too poor, and even if I wasn't I have a really hard time handling (non-existent, imaginary) pressure/guilt about not buying things from people I know.

xmas decorations and animated movies

On December 1st, Marilyn decided it was high time to decorate for Christmas.

She told us her goal was to make it look like Santa threw up.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
She's so serious about it. Soon we'll have a real live (dead) tree.

Also, last night I went to see Bolt at the Riverview. The best part was not being responsible for getting the tickets (2nd time this week!) and the worst part was the movie. No review.

list addendum, 1

I occasionally think about venturing into the world of jewelry.
I think this is the necklace that could really make it happen:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
(in gold, of course).
So, if you can't afford to get me a Wii Fit, here's another option. Or, anything from Designglut or Supermarket HQ or Fred Flare or something. For your convenience, I also have an amazon wish list, but pass over for me if you will all vampire sequels. I guess I'm over it.*

Mostly that necklace though.
Oh, and p.s., and how funny was that article about Joey Sweeney not wanting anything from Etsy for xmas?

*buying me expensive presents is a joke by the way. And certainly don't take it as a sign that you're getting one from me.

PCP

but not that PCP.
Update:
Today I got a Primary Care Physician - you know, one I found on Yelp. I got referrals, I got looked at in my ears, I got scripts, I got billed.
It wasn't so bad, AND I avoided shots and blood work because I hadn't had breakfast. Score.
I'm going to get so healthy on you.

foreign baby vampires

Last night we went to go see Låt den rätte komma in, or Let the Right One In, or Foreign Baby Vampires.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
It was fine. It was one of those downer Eastern European movies about sad kids in bad weather in towns where nothing except bullying happens. Except the one kid is a vampire.
Here, my vampire legend library was both reiterated and expanded: this vampire is super strong, moves fast, and she does that same tree climbing thing as Edward Cullen in Twilight. A scamperer. And, as in True Blood, vampires can't entire unless invited. In this case, they start bleeding all over the place if they do. New things are: in LTROI the vampire in this movie keeps telling the boy who likes her "I'm not a girl", and you think, "oh, it's cause she's a vampire", not "oh, because her spot is all weird and sewn up". Yikes.

getting paid

It's so super annoying/awesome that people who make this
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
get $40+ per pillow. That is to say, they would get that much, but they're all sold out. You know who else makes that exact pillow? For like a dollar? This girl.
I'm in the wrong business.

scaredy cat

Tomorrow I have my first doctor visit since 1999. I mean, I've seen some other doctors since then, but not just a regular old doctor.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'm pretty nervous, and I have a lot of questions. Sometimes I think my body is falling apart.

PBC

We also went to the Philadelphia Brewing Company to learn about beer.
We got there a little early and tried all of their beers, then did the tour.

It was real sciency. We ate barley. Heard a lot of temperatures and ingredients.
Here's the parts I remember the most:
"How do you clean the barrels?"
"Oh, Josh slides in through that little opening and cleans them, then we help him out".
(terrifying).
Glue guns. Someone assembles the boxes and on the bottom they're glued together (you know...like a box). They have giant, industrial glue guns. I never knew such a thing existed.
They have the Walt Wit taps made by a guy in upstate NY who makes giant pencils for a living. So yes, they're real pencils. Three different times this came up.
They had three white vintage Christmas trees, and a lot of cats around.
That's pretty much it.

books as movies

I guess I've already said this, but I'm having a hard time getting through Twilight (the book). But anyway, we saw the movie on Saturday, it was actually pretty good!
There were a couple dumb parts, mostly the computery ones, like when Edward's taking Bella through the forest on his back,
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
and that in sunlight, he just gets really sparkly.

Overall though, it's Cedric Diggory (the handsomest kid to die in a Harry Potter movie ever) as a vampire in Washington State, which is a pretty good premise. There's good guys and there's bad guys and legends and high schoolers and everything. Pretty good. Oh and they live in a really fantastic house, with no beds, cause you know, vampires don't sleep.

I've also been watching that HBO show, "True Blood" - another contemporary vampire exploration.
In both of these worlds, vampires move really, really, fast, and have unbridled strength, and can sometimes hear thoughts. I'd never heard any of these things before - is it all common vampire lore that I just didn't know about? Hmmm...

a ticket, a mystery

This morning I went to go take care of a parking ticket. One that I got while serving jury duty (double bummer).
So, I went to the window and said to the girl, "last time I was here, I told the girl it was a scooter and I didn't have to see a judge or anything, it just got dismissed", and she tells me to fill out my paperwork and wait to hear my name called.
There's a hundred people in the room, so I'm planning on keeping waiting, and kind of sad I didn't bring Twilight (which by the way, I'm having kind of hard time getting through, even before I saw the movie) to read while waiting.
Moments later though, before I can even try to find a seat, they call my name and the girl tells me my information is "incomplete" so they're just going to dismiss this ticket, no big deal.
So she hands me this paper with all my violations ever in Philadelphia on it - and they're all "Perm Susp" except for one...on East Passyunk? The 1700 block? And it's been paid? And not so long ago that I wouldn't remember. I don't pay tickets. I also can't imagine ever parking on that block. The only thing that's in that hood that I care about is the Melrose, and they have their own lot?
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Anyway. I'm pretty sure someone found one of the sets of keys I've lost over the years, borrows scoot around 6:47 sometimes when I'm out of town, and drives to the "other side" of Broad. This thief must have a good heart though, because they paid my ticket. What more could I ask for?

cinema on holidays

So, on Thanksgiving, we saw hours and hours of good movies.
First, we went to the East and saw Slumdog Millionaire.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
In case you don't know, it's about these orphan kids growing up in India and one of them gets on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
It was awesome.
There's a surprise Bollywood dance number.
It kind of shares the aesthetic of 28 Days Later but with cute Indian kids escaping bad guys instead of civilians escaping zombies.

After that we went to the Bourse and saw the Changeling.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
It's a true story(!), and gave me that anxious and defeated feeling that you get when you're watching movies like Brokedown Palace or Girl Interrupted or something.
So, it's about this kidnapping in the twenties in LA. The police are super corrupt and try to give mom back the wrong kid.
Good things: Ang is awesome in it, and so is John Malcovich. Story is good, lots of twists and turns.
Dumb things: Clint really tries hard to set the scene. Oh - it's the twenties? haircuts lipstick products furniture Frosted Flakes trolleys prices everything. Places the movie could have ended? Seven or eight.

Anyway, I'd recommend either of these movies - it was the best day of movies in a while. Even if I did have to pay for one.

a change of plans

Thanksgiving at my house is tonight. That's right, a holiday pregame.
If you're around, come! It's potluck so bring some food to share, your own plate, some wine to drink. Everyone's invited, it starts around 7 and we end at Click or something.
Gobble.
OH! And there will be THANKSGIVING QUIZZO! So come by, K?
