Junior

Do you think it's weird that none of our baby-maker friends are naming their kids after neighborhoods?   Like when celebrities name their kid "Bronx" or something (didn't someone do that?)

I was just thinking about it, and I'm a little surprised that there's no like "Kenzie" or anything in the mix.  I don't hate those kinds of names, if you like a neighborhood enough.  Or maybe if Baby was conceived there.

Other ideas (nothing "Fishy"):
  "Port Richie"
  "Queenie V" or "Bella V"
  "Lansie D"
  "N'eastie" (?)
  "NoLi"

rast

About a week ago, I decided that I needed to have a dresser in my life.  Aids Thrift and Craigslist, for all their charms, did not cut it this time.
So: over to Ikea.  Got this dresser that everyone in the entire world has - it's $35, and has been proclaimed by serious experts as "endlessly adaptable".

I borrowed one hundred ideas from the internet, changed all of them, and spent Sunday afternoon assembling and painting and staining* a dresser that now looks like this:

And I love it.  I'm not totally sure what my life was even like before a dresser.

Oh, and see those LUXURIOUS(?) leather drawer pulls?  They're made from a fat person belt I got at the thrift store.  So really, this project is all about recycling.  Because I'm super green.

*I ventilated, but maybe not as much as I should have.  My house smells super project-y.  Whatever.  I'm Getting Stuff Done.

runner

My loosely Chupacabra-themed 1181" table runner is coming along nicely - thanks everybody.  I can't wait til it's done (in like 2019) and I have this awesome, food-stained reminder of a hundred good dinners to put in a time capsule.

organ player

(For the record, I already know this one is kind of boring.)

Yesterday I was getting pretty into reading some weird mom organization blogs.  Like Org Junkie and this Real Housewife of NYC one.
Most of the stuff they talk about isn't directly applicable to my life (at all), like:
 - cleaning the "spare bedroom"
 - organizing the comic books
 - prettying up dry food storage
 - and sorting handed down baby clothes
but I did end up feeling a little inspired.  So, when I got out of school early, I "tackled" (I don't know, organizers always say "tackle") two rough spots - closet and drawer.

Closet is looking less like this, and more tidy and manageable now:

And in this drawer I found seven lipsticks, more than seven dollars, and seven (new!) AA batteries.  And so many headbands!

There's no after pictures, cause that's boring.

Next up?  Sites set on paperwork and art supplies, both of which are (in)conveniently stored in patches and collections throughout every floor of the house.  Organized in 2k12 (side/more important resolution: been trying to wear some of those lipsticks).  Anybody else resolving?

print

I needed a birthday card this morning, and found this in the stacks - my first ever screen print, from an at-home, hand blocked trial a hundred years ago:
Liv, 2001(?)

I know it's not especially good, or notable or anything, but it both brought back some fond memories of West Seneca summers, AND made me glad I just signed up for this silk screen workshop at Fleisher (because I could definitely use it).

today's cure is layered up
Velveeta macaroni and cheese
taco meat w/ onions
Taco Bell hot sauce packets
salsa fresca
lots of lettuce
and tiny bit of sour cream.

Hit the spot.  Calling it "El Pelo Del Perro".

float

I tried out a new thing: semi-permanent hair color*

which I like on my head a lot (in a low-key, tiny-changes kind of way), but not as much on my towels, sheets, pillowcases, duvet.
Nice one, Garnier Herbashine.  Thanks for ruining all my white linens.

*in "Root Beer Float: Medium Dark Brown", in case you couldn't tell by how much my hair looks like one.  A root beer float.
Also, sometimes it takes a hair-color self portrait to really know how crooked your bangs are.  It's non-accidental, I just didn't know it was so extreme.
