keeping stepping

I forgot to even write about Step Up 3D, which I saw at the Riverview this weekend, with a group of people that included a disgruntled sailor.

Do I even need to tell you about it?  Here's a highlight, where our protagonists stand over a subway vent and share a magical slurpee 3d experience.  And fall in love.  It was a beautiful thing.

This movie was everything I hoped for and more.  Plus some really bad plot.  Go see it.

knitup

This summer, when I was really into writing letters, I wrote to Lion Brand yarn.  I don't totally remember what I wrote (but probably have a scan of the letter somewhere, I tried to be pretty good about that) - but it was probably something about an idea for a project I had or something.
Then a while ago, I got a letter from them, something like "thanks, glad you like us, here's some places to buy our yarn".

Then yesterday?  This big box comes:
So Much Yarn.  There's like a hundred (means about twenty?) skiens, all in nice colors, and some of them are the size of Booger.  (Or, for those of you who don't know her...some of them are the size of a basketball.  A slight exaggeration, but barely).

The best part?  Despite a lot of trying, and some good teachers, I don't know how to knit.  Maybe this winter.

ok

I'm "back" or whatever.  After the jump.  Editorial we.  Web-logs.

I got a little caught up in real life (birthdays, tacos, visitors, packing, dog emergencies, Boom Blox etc) lately and quit caring about (my presence on) the internet, and still don't really, but here's a couple things.

Pictures from our yard this morning:  it's really nice, and just covered with morning glories/old glory
and...it's also kind of disgusting.  As we purge/throw out stuff while we're packing.  Our piles of garbage just GROW.
Things in the garbage:
typewriter that fell
all the typewriter ribbons I couldn't find when I wanted to
the tiger rug that was great while it lasted
3 Houghton College yearbooks
ac that mostly doesn't work
reality show applications
some pictures of people sleeping
100 more dvd cases
card catolog decopagued with maps of NYS
one million other treasures that didn't make the cut.
And then there's the "clothes swap" pile, a "donate" pile, and a "Nikki" box.  Yikes.  (It feels great to have this stuff on it's way out.)

At least there's flowers on top (of the garbage).

Then, after scoping foliage and garbage, I walked out the gate to see K  got tire-robbed last night, which is the worst.  People are jerks.  People are jerks to Kim's vehicles (last weekend, someone tried to steal her scooter.  Unsuccessful, but successful in making it undriveable, which is still a pretty big bummer, especially in August).
So that was this morning.  On the train (I took the train!  I never take the train!  I was on my bike, but those rainclouds looked pretty ominous and started drip dropping on my head so I hit the El), I listed to the new This American Life, and I must have missed the whole beginning of it, because after a few minutes, I was lost.  I think guy was doing Master Cleanse?   I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but in general, I feel like it (the cleanse) is something I both resent, but want to try.  Like hanging out at the Piazza.

corner

Painting painting painting.  From the worst green and grey to all white everywhere all the time (at least in my room up on the 3rd floor).

And trying to start a new blog about new house, where design adventures will be chronicled (OhaiLehigh will have a lot more process shots, before and afters, stuff like that), and you'll be able to see the place without making the trip.  Although, please: make the trip. Eat some of our figs, they're out of control.

paper

I usually have some big ideas for projects.  Today I went to Blick, which is right by my work, to pick up some paper for a project I'm thinking about*.
I got down there (it's in a weird basement) and got super overwhelmed by how many great papers there are for sale, and then I couldn't pick one, and then I left with nothing.  Not because I couldn't find what I wanted, but because there were too many good options (and they're like a dollar or something.  What?  Why aren't I wallpapering entire rooms?!  I might.  Or a closet...)

A problem, but a good one.

*I obviously shouldn't be thinking about projects.  I should be packing, and moving stuff, and making projects with paper in like a month or two, when I'm settled in new house.

comfy

Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams (that furniture store on Chestnut?) just sent a book.
It's called Let's Get Comfortable.

Matt leBlanc immediately did just that.

(Sorry.  Cat pictures are boring, I know - but I really like him.)

local

We went to a pool party.
In Fishtown.
An inground pool, at a 3rd generation Fishtown house.

We played pool basketball, and listened to big hits and watched this happen

(sorry it's a little sideways.  If you can't really see it, imagine the next picture, as a movie.)
I'm left with the feelings that 1) there's obviously a better way to open champagne, and 2) someday I want a pool in my life.

Other than that, Prison Break, painting, Mad Decent Block Party, etc.  Usual.
