costumes

There was also talk of a party where you dress as complex dead celebrity combinations. A lot of ideas thrown around. Trumped by Kamper's DJAMJFK.

CoA

It's official. I live in your neighborhood now. Or it least it's likey.

Last night was the grill premier. We ate all the meat. We ate all the meat cake. We drank eleven bottles of wine.

We came up with really good ideas to accompany yard teepee - namely, to surround it with herds of buffalo poodles, dogs that look like pandas, and huskies*.

*I don't actually want all these dogs in my yard, except for maybe a one-time hang out or photoshoot.

10

This avocado IS my ten year plan, and I'm already 3 months deep in it.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
So big and strong though, right? It was just a pit for so so long. Then it had a tiny root. It cracked open. Keeping waiting for months. AND NOW THIS!

run

Today I got a book out from the library (you gotta hit that when you can. Yesterday they were closed due to "lack of staffing"?).
Idiot's guide to Jogging and Running.
What if I ran? If I was a Runner?

If I spent as much time running as I did looking through this book today, then I'd be a runner, I guess.
Maybe soon. New year, hair, house, running lifestyle?
Also I'm going to start taking those hair vitamins again.

truck?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Conrad gave us this couch (and matching chair) a while ago. It's in good shape. It's long. It's heavy. And it's too big for new house.
I'm trying to sell it on Craigslist, but am really tired of the whole thing.
Do you want it?
Disclaimer: we had fleas. I think we beat it, but we had fleas. Couch needs a good vacuum.
If you can come and pick it up really soon, it's yours. Chair goes too.

on two wheeled transport

I think if you ride a bike, you're supposed to feel this allegiance or solidarity or whatever with people who are like you: Bike Riders. But I'm bad at it, and end up unitentionally excusively liking people with regular bikes. I feel nothing towards bike messengers, delivery boys, or pseudo commuters with their weird folding bikes. I actually get kind of annoyed with them, for no reason.

Similarly, I think I'm supposed to feel this same one-ness with all scooter drivers, but have a big aversion to new Vespa owners. Like, you had the choice of every kind of scooter in the world pretty much (at that price point you do anyway)and you picked that? Pretty much anything else is fine.

It doesn't make sense and makes me wonder if I hate everyone. I don't think I do, but these are the dumbest reasons for dis-like and I wish I knew what was behind them.

Also dislike until won over: boys with drama haircuts, customer service, American Apparel employees, girls, etc.

On the other hand, inclined to like: siblings, maintenance workers, people with dogs.

dark

Just got back from a few days "working" "down the shore".
I felt like I needed a change. So I just dyed my hair.

There's nothing like watching black dye rinse out. I've always wanted to make a quick movie about it to be able to communicate it to people who don't dye their hair - I just haven't been able to work out the logistics I guess. First your whole body gets these black streaks down it, then it's all over the whole shower, brown and black, and water. Then you wash your hair a whole bunch of times, and it's dark lather. Eventually, everything is the way it started (except your hair).

I kind of still want a change though.

120

It's way more impossible than it used to be to get prints from 120 film. There used to be 3 Ritz's that did it. The first two I went to had closed down. The third one developed my film but made no prints. Now I have to go all the way down to 19 and Chestnut (that's pretty much like going to Mexico or something, in this heat).
But I'm pretty sure the pictures will be really good.

Or at least medium. (Get it? Medium?)

Tonight is a fakesy stoop (noun) sale at my house. Come, buy/sell, stoop (verb) with us. 6-9, you know the place.

gooey

This morning, I put a whole bunch of moisturizer in my hair. On accident. The kind for your skin. Now my hair is really moist (gross).

cause

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Sometimes it's kind of dumb when people try too hard to be funny. But this was just so unexpected.

late nights at the *view

(*River)

Been seeing late shows and staying awake through them. First up: District 9. I like movies that successfully set up an alternate past, and they did it really well. There's great cgi aliens in it. Believable fake government agencies. Overarching issues/topics/ideas. Maybe too many explosions and chases at the end.
See this movie. Especially if you like sci-fi movies. Or hero movies. Or morality tales.

Then, last night: Julie and Julia. It was about 3 hours long maybe, and would have been a pretty good biography if they just cut out the whole "Julie" end of things. The whole movie flips back and forth between the Julia Childs story (pretty good), and this other girl Julie, who writes a blog (and then a book, and then they...make a movie of it!). There's about 30 minutes of this movie that's her sitting in front of her computer, typing blog entries, and narrating them. Like actual word-by-word screen shots. She becomes obsessed (in a boring way) with Julia Childs and decides to cook all her recipes. You can read the actual blog here. The best part of the movie is how it ends (spoiler!): real life Julia finds out about Julie's blog and thinks it's super dumb. Somehow not dumb enough for them to not make a movie about it, but still dumb.

(Maybe someone should make a movie about my blog. Sounds really interesting, right? Wrong. See?)

summer

Today I brought a novel with me, in case my whole computer flaked out again (yesterday was the longest workday). This doesn't do much to convince people you're a go-getter. Separately, my job expanded today to include the role of "art handler" (read: carrying kind-of heavy aluminum mounted photographs to my bosses car. In jeans. In this heat.)

Saturday I ate like eleven pieces of gum on accident.

Someone (kind of funny?) signed me up for a condom/lube sample mailing list. Every once in a while, unmarked envelopes with samples and coupons come. Thanks.

flash

T and Maryanne's wedding party. There was a lot of tiny cats as decor, the littlest cheeseburgers you've ever seen (really - slider:regular burger, these cheeseburgers:sliders), and I got to go in the photobooth at least ten times.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I didn't spill anything in white room, and if I did, the lights were low enough not to notice.

Dear Everyone,
When you get married, the party is the fun part. Work on it. Nobody except your mom cares that much about the ceremony. For examples/inspiration, see: Melissa and Dave's 1920's party, Elizabeth and Fred's costume party reception, and this one in New York.
Love,
your friends.

New York city was also failed reunions (sorry Greg) and the flea market, and so so hot.

keeping

It's hard to find good wedding cards.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Here's one for T and M. I'm pretty sure they don't read my blog, so it's fine to preview. Tomorrow is their party, and while they flaked out on the money booth, there's going to be even better things. Even better kinds of booths.

Plus it's at this place, which is So White.

birthday wishes

Here's a whole bunch of things I won't get for my birthday:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This bike. Republic bikes/Urban lets you make your own bike, like those sneaker websites. Colors of everything. It's pretty fun. And while I worry about being a big faker, I think it comes down to the fact that I do like riding bikes, and it'd be nice to have a pretty one that worked well.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Obviously, this vacuum (or, Dyson's "ANIMAL"). Matt's becoming more and more okay with being vacuumed.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
A bed. This bed. It's just from Ikea, and isn't really even that much money, but would make for a great tent/fort.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
A z-rack. I don't even really need a closet. I just want a clothes rack that can hold a few hundred pounds. You know, for pull-ups (joke). Seriously though, I want a z-rack.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
These guys too. But maybe without the dumb lining that'll make my feet super hot and sweaty and stinky.

Really though, I'll be satisfied with new house.

Also: if you think this stuff is expensive, you should see my medical wishlist. Elective tonsillectomies and gold teeth are really pricey.

blogiversary

It's my one year blogiversary. Send flowers or something. JK.

Things are regular lately. It's super duper hot out, worrying about staph infections I don't have, throwing the box spring down the stairs and out the door cause I don't like it anymore, Weeds, work, making drama, wishing I had LOST season 5 (Ben?), missing birthdays (sorry, Sister), itchy legs, wishing for a normal sized bathroom/bathtub, feeling bad for Matt leBlanc and the Little One (who must be so hot too), imaginary shopping, riding my scooter, finally fixin' bike seat (thanks, C), having vivid dreams (that turn out to be hard to replicate), long showers, home remedies, et cetra. Mostly, I'm boring and hot.

(Also one of the top google searches that leads people to this blog is "boys with iPhones", which is great.)

summer of married

Every weekend someone is getting married - this time Thad and Steph. It was fun, and late, outdoors, food, dancing, bluegrass, realizations, etc.
Pictures will come someday.
This coming weekend is more of the same, but also big reunion-y stuff. For now, I'm just playing it low-key, 9-5ing with breaks for dentists and periodontists, thinking about what gets packed first.

do want

Moving: big drag, but really exciting.

We have absolutely given up on Beulah, and our house is an explosion of packing. Today we sign the lease on new digs, and go draw straws for rooms and measure some stuff. Maybe start thinking about colors.

I've been keeping a "do want" file for Oxford house - some things to do in advance, some things to do after. Things to buy/things to make. Today though - this project called my name. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I'm going to build this bed, maybe paint it, maybe put some casters on it?
Big ideas.

Oh, and a teepee. I can't wait.

lpia

Oh hi, you missed me, blog-world? I was in Colorado for the (long) weekend, seeing sister and kids. Zoo, swimming, rodeo/state fair/carnival, restaurants, garage saling, etc. It was good. Cemented in my mind that I'm not ready for 3 kids/2 dogs/2 house lifestyle. I'll visit that, and it's nice, but I don't want that.

Meanwhile, Pops sends me this picture of his beer/wine this year. He took them to the fair.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
He's coming to town at the end of the month to move us up north. Hopefully there will be a birthday bbq with Al on birthday grill on new porch.

Things that are weighing on my mind: controlling this flea thing. Eating better. Having a garage sale. Dark hair for fall. Teepees (tipis?). You know, the us(ual).
